Inclusive teams are just having equal numbers of student-athletes of color and white athletes. It is not only about having student-athletes of different races, backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, social economic classes, and family structures, it is also about celebrating those differences. It is about learning about the different ethnic holidays or findings restaurants with foods from different ethnicities. It is about having the ability to developing environments within your athletic program to create culturally competent student-athletes, staff, and coaches.
Take a moment to listen to this episode of Coach Your Brains Out where I chat with a few of the AVP professionals and volleyball aficionados on these tough subjects. It is worth the listen and I hope will help you think differently about the changes that need to happen to make teams more inclusive.
