Serena Williams you are amazing. Your grace and patience is something we all hope to achieve because you handled that ridiculous set of questions with more grace and patience than lives in my body. Why would someone who has beaten another athlete 19 times, with 18 in a row be intimidated? That makes no sense, and let’s be honest. The reporter wasn’t talking about court intimidation. He was talking about intimidation from white skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes.
“I have been waiting about 14 years to ask you this question. After the 2004 Wimbledon match with Maria, I had the opportunity to interview Donald Trump on his L.A. golf course, and he said that Maria’s shoulders were incredibly alluring and then he came up with his incredible analysis: that you were intimidated by her supermodel good looks. My question is: Have you ever been intimidated by anyone on a tennis court, and what are you thoughts about that occurrence?”
A reporter has waiting 14 years to ask about a loss? A reporter waits to ask about the analysis Trump gave on an athlete’s shoulders? No. He wanted to see if he could make a black woman feel small and less than to someone she beat numerous times, over and over and over. But he doesn’t understand. We don’t get intimidated. We are stronger than that.
